Yeast Infection in Man

By: Jerry and Daryl McCoy

Yeast infections in a man can happen but not as often as with women. Some of the causes for male yeast infections are:

* being uncircumcised.
* being obese.
* poor hygiene.
* wearing tight fitting clothing that doesn’t allow the genitals to breathe.
* pulling your underwear or swim trunks up over feet that have a fungal infection.
* wearing wet swim trunks for extended periods of time.
* sex with a woman that has a yeast infection.

Men can often prevent yeast infections by doing a few common sense things like:

* wear cotton boxer shorts instead of jockey shorts.
* avoid tight fight clothes.
* use a hair dryer to dry the groin if your towel isn’t absorbent enough.
* be extremely diligent in your washing and drying if you aren’t circumcised.
* get your weight under control but until you do take extra care with your hygiene.
* use a condom or avoid sex when your partner has a yeast infection.

Yeast organisms naturally occur in all people but yeast infections usually only happen when something knocks the body out of its normal balance. The disturbance of the natural flora within the body allows the micro-organisms to experience uncontrolled growth. (Think of this uncontrolled growth as a small scale version of the algae blooms you might see on ponds that have their natural balance disturbed by nutrient runoffs from farm lands.) In addition to what was mentioned above, antibiotics can help disturb the natural balance that prevents yeast infections.

There are numerous treatments for yeast infection in a man and you should consult with your medical professional to keep this from turning into something that becomes chronic.
